What are your experiences of sitting the GCSE English Language exams?
When I was a student in Year 11, I didnât take GCSEs seriously. I did well in my mock exams so I felt like I would pass my GCSEs with no problem but sadly that wasnât the case and I ended up getting a grade 3 which meant I did not pass my English GCSE. Since I was close to a grade 4, I was eligible for a November re-sit in college. I failed once again, and I was only 2 marks off a grade 4. I went on to do another re-sit in June which I once again failed and was once again 2 marks off a grade 4. I had enough of going to English lessons and it didnât help that my teacher in college was trying to help everyone pass at only a grade 4, I had a lot of people in my class so I couldnât get the help I needed, I felt like the lessons were basically useless. I needed a change in the way I was being taught. So, my parents and I searched for a tutor to help. Thatâs when I found Primary to GCSE tutoring. Emma helped prepare me for the November re-sit. We had 2-hour lessons per week, and she had 10 weeks to prepare me. This time, I felt confident with everything I learnt from the tutoring sessions. As an experienced teacher and Examiner, Emma explained how to answer each question on the exam paper and Iâm pleased to say that with Emmaâs help, I went from a grade 3 to a grade 6! Thank you Primary to GCSE Tutoring!
Why did you have to/ want to keep trying?
I have big plans for my future, I want to work for a reputable company earning a good wage, and that is almost impossible without having a good English grade. Because of this I had to push myself just a bit more so I can achieve what I want. Since I now have a good pass grade, I have been offered multiple apprenticeships and have been accepted onto an internship thanks to my English grade.
How did tuition help you?
It changed the way I write in general; I now find it easy to write long emails and cover letters for job applications. I was able to get a grade 6 because of the lessons I had with my tutor and because of this I have been given great opportunities which I wouldnât have if it wasnât for the lessons that I took. I was able to completely change my way of writing and appear formal and professional when I write. My punctuation and vocabulary improved significantly, and now I can express myself perfectly in my writing.
What are your plans now?
Since I have a better grade than I needed, I have been given multiple offers for apprenticeships which I didnât have before, I went from being an overlooked candidate to standing out because of my grades. My path was halted because of my grades but now it has allowed me to continue with what I want to do, and it will continue to help me in the future. Because of the tutoring that I received I have gone from failing to having a grade that others can only hope to have. I have now got a guaranteed position in an internship to become a vehicle technician with an extremely reputable company and I will be working on vehicles that I thought I would never even touch. This is thanks to my tutor who helped me to achieve the grade I needed which has changed my education for the better.
